Members’ Update May 2024

  • 1st May 2024

In this month's edition, we feature several Case Studies, events and articles relating to Children and Young People's Services, including how Seaton Valley Community Council took on Youth Services when their County Council stepped away, how Llanelli Town Council responded to community need and rolled out a new Sports, Youth and Activity Service, Stevenage Borough Council's 'Youth No More Service' and Manchester City Council's 'Child-led Corporate Family Cooperative'.

Councillor Louise Gittins

Chair of the CCIN
Leader of Cheshire West & Chester Council

In March, the Executive Oversight Committee heard from Josh MacAlister, the author of the MacAlister Review of Children’s Social Care and its proposal to create Regional Care Cooperatives. At the same time, the Law Commission is undertaking a Review of Co-operative Law. Check out the Anthony Collins Briefing Note on Care.  We plan to run a Webinar on Regional Care Coops in the Summer.

Trafford Council invites you to a FREE Innovation and Best Practice Event on VAWG, and there’s a second opportunity to undertake the FREE Active Bystander Training for anyone who missed out last time.  This is all part of their Policy Lab on Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls.

Save the date: We are planning a webinar with Leonora Grcheva, the Cities and Regions Lead from the Doughnut Economics Action Lab.  Please pencil in 10 am – 11 am on Tuesday, 18 June; we will confirm as soon as possible.

There’s also news from Cooperatives UK, the Cooperative College, Anthony Collins Solicitors and SBI/E3M, some of our Affiliate Members.

We begin with news from the Royal Borough of Greenwich, which is launching a Cooperative Commission to help shape the future of collaboration.

Finally, good luck to everyone who is standing for election on May 2nd; I wish you well.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Update and your Bank Holiday weekend.

Best wishes

Louise
