One of the biggest challenges facing local government lies is the escalating financial crisis in health and social care.  In previous years we have hoped to see funding proposals come forward for work to be developed in this area, one which we know concerns all of our members, and where we think that radical co-operative based solutions could be the way forward. Applications for Policy Prototype funding close on Monday 6 January (extended deadline) so if you are working in an area with a successful co-operative solution already in place, or in development please apply!

Last month, our Affiliate Members E3M/SBI invited us to meet with Suara Cooperative, a Catalonian based worker cooperative whose work in delivering social care spans 30 years.  In the UK we don’t yet have the answers to the health and social care crisis, but together we can share our experiences, successes and failures, to deliver affordable ‘co-operative’ care for the 21st Century.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Update.

Best wishes for a restful Christmas

Sharon
