CCIN Members’ Update March 2020

  • 5th Mar 2020

Councillor Sharon Taylor OBE, Chair of the CCIN & Leader of Stevenage Borough Council

This month we’re looking forward to launching our Policy Lab on Doubling the size of the Co-operative Economy.  We know that councils can play a pivotal role in developing the local economy and so we’re keen to share the work that Plymouth City Council has undertaken so that we can work with our communities to grow the co-operative economy and maximise the social dividend to those that need it most.

In this edition we’re announcing the dates and venue of our first Regional Conference where we will be showcasing the very best co-operative initiatives in the North East.  Hosted by Sunderland City Council, we’ll also be holding our 3rd Annual Strategy Session enabling members to set our priorities for the coming year.

Several of our Affiliate Members have also provided news and updates on leading edge innovations from across the country.

Finally, I’m delighted to share Cllr Darren Rodwell’s insights as to why Barking and Dagenham has joined the Network. Barking and Dagenham were named UK Council of the Year 2020 by the iESE for their outstanding radical redesign of the council which is delivering results not only at a national but at an international level!  Darren was named as Council Leader of the Year in the 2019 Cllr Achievement Awards which were organised by the LGiU and CCLA. Congratulations Darren, and welcome to the Network.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Update.

Best wishes

Sharon
