Dear Member

Welcome to the June edition of Update

Wow! This month the London Borough of Lewisham joins the CCIN.  There are now 100 councils, opposition groups, organisations and supporters in our Network.  And this week Steve Reed, OBE MP confirmed that “This is now the biggest movement in local government, innovating with new ways to bring decision making closer to people.”

I’m so very proud to see so many new Members join in the past year, particularly at what has been such a difficult time for local government.

Thank you to all the councillors, officers and the wider Network for your continued endeavours to building a more co-operative and fairer world.

The latest figures are:
33 – Full Council Members
19 – Associate Members (9 Town & Parish Councils) (10 Opposition Groups)
35 – Affiliate Members
13 – Supporters

Congratulation to everyone that was re-elected on 6 May to serve their communities.  I want to welcome the new Council Leaders at North Hertfordshire, Oldham, Plymouth, Rochdale, Seaton Valley Community Council and Southampton.

Several FREE events are coming up in June including Cooperative Congress on 25th, a webinar on the future of high streets organised by Preston City Council on the 9th, and sessions from RedQuadrant on the 10th and PSTA on the 23rd. We also have plans to launch our Beyond Asset Transfer report, led by Newcastle City Council, this month.

In this month’s Update do check out the blog from Councillor Sharon Thompson who reveals how Birmingham City Council is tackling exempt accommodation.  We’re also spotlighting the Community-Led Homes Toolkit for those councils that are supporting community-led housing as part of their housing strategies.

I hope that you enjoy this Member Update.

Stay safe.

Sharon
