Dear Member

Welcome to the July edition of Update

This month we are delighted to announce that we have appointed Peopletoo, one of our Affiliate Members and a member of our Dynamic Purchasing System, to pull all the learning together from our funded projects in health and social care.  We plan to publish the “Co-operative Difference in Care” report early in 2022.

There’s still time to join us for the launch of our latest publication: Beyond Asset Transfer, on 1st July. Register here. Transferring assets to communities or not-for-profit organisations is not always easy, even when we know it is the right solution.  This report seeks to demystify the process and encourage more councils to be bold in their plans for community assets.

We have welcomed several new members to our Governance following the local Government elections in May.  I would particularly like to welcome Councillor Joyce McCarty, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Cooperation at Newcastle City Council, who joins us as the new Chair of the Values and Principles Board.  Full details of the changes are outlined in this edition.

We have lots to celebrate this month, as several members win awards and accolades.  I would like to congratulate the following:

  • Salford City Council as Salford has been awarded ‘Living Wage Places’ Champion for 2021.
  • Bristol, Cardiff & Glasgow who have won Sustainable Food Places Awards 2021
  • Birmingham, Oldham, Oxford, Greenwich, South Tyneside, and Sunderland for committing to the Councils for Fair Tax Declaration.

We publish two of our Policy Prototype reports prepared by Plymouth City Council, which look at some of the challenges in Adult Social Care.

Finally, we’d like to wish England the best of luck in the Euros as the last home team remaining in the competition – Come on England!

I hope that you enjoy this edition of Update

Take care

Sharon
