Glasgow City Council’s Future Savers project provides all S1 pupils in the city with access to a credit unions savings account with an opening deposit of £10 per pupil. 14 credit unions are linked with 43 secondary schools across the city. For the first two years of the programme significant resources were invested by Elected Members, Council Officers and Credit Union staff to physically launch Future Savers in each of the 43 secondary schools. Following feedback from school pupils on the launch and in order to reduce the level of resources required to launch Futures Savers for every new S1 cohort, the Council has developed an innovative animated launch materials for teachers to use which covers all aspects of the previous launch format but in a way that is more stimulating and appealing to school pupils, including narrations from pupils from one of our partner secondary schools.
