Local charities who work with Stevenage Borough Council were concerned that many older people do not ask for help when they first need it but instead wait until they are having a crisis. This can mean they end up having a lengthy stay in hospital which could have been avoided.

The council worked with them to devise a plan to help, and decided to pull together information on all the help available for older people in the area, to share with older people and their carers.

The guide, Living Well in Later Life, includes information on social activities, financial advice, care services, activities on offer, and emergency contacts for public bodies and charities who help older people
