New models of meeting priority needs
In exploring new ways of meeting the priority needs of our communities we will encourage models, such as co-operatives and mutuals, which give greater influence and voice to staff and users. in designing and commissioning public services and in determining the use of public resources.
During a consultation with the community in Llanelli, it was identified that there are gaps in the provision of organized activities to support community organizations and sports clubs with their service provision. Additionally, there is a need for stand-alone open community activities across Llanelli.
In 2023, Llanelli Town Council, therefore, rolled out a new Sports, Youth and Activity Service, which worked with Community Organisations, Schools, Sports Clubs and others, developing available services and creating new stand-alone activities free for use by residents. These included:
- Regular turn up and play sessions at the new Cruyff Court, Penyfan (averaging 20 attendees) along with dedicated sessions developed for: o Syria Sir Gar refugee support group.
- Public, School and Disability Bowls sessions at the Selwyn Samuel Indoor Bowls Club and at outdoor greens during the Summer.
- Monthly Chair based exercise for older residents in partnership with People Speak Up and Hearts and Crafts for those living with dementia.
- Play sessions at the Town Council Summer Paddling Pool Provision.
- Monthly New Year, New Me sessions with Llanelli Multicultural Network.
- Environmental Community Planting Projects with Schools, Community Groups and Residents.
