About the event

Bremer Höhe in Berlin was set up as a result of local community action to prevent former buildings in East Berlin from being sold to private investors and the residents displaced due to high rents.

Where there is a will, there is a way!

The Confederation of Co-operative Housing (CCH) is hosting a seminar on Friday 7th May (2 pm to 4 pm). This seminar, aimed at local authority opinion formers seeking large scale housing solutions, has been arranged around two case study community-led housing schemes of several hundred homes from Zurich and Berlin.  mehr als wohnen and Bremer Höhe show how local authorities can successfully support community-led housing on a large scale – meeting their own priorities through community imagination and vision.

Speaking at the seminar will be:

  • Andrea Wieland – Chief Executive, mehr als wohnen
  • Alex Martinovits – the City of Zürich
  • Dr Barbara König – Bremer Höhe
  • Dr Jochen Hucke – former Chief of Berlin City Development

Nic Bliss, the CCH’s Head of Policy, will lead a discussion with the panel and with attendees about how community-led housing could be developed at scale in the UK and hear how this partnership worked and delivered in Zurich and Berlin.

This seminar is primarily aimed at local authority opinion formers – representatives seeking large scale housing solutions.
