CCIN Members’ Update February 2018

  • 8th Feb 2018

Councillor Sharon Taylor, Chair of the CCINWe’ve begun 2018 by taking the CCIN message to several events across the country, including presenting to the South West Peninsula Cooperative Weekend School in Torquay, an Action Planning Day in Manchester for our governance in Manchester, the Launch of the Localism Commission report in London and exhibiting at the Labour Party Local Government Conference in Nottingham.

Our highlight this month has been the launch of our report ‘Community-Led Housing: a Key Role for Local Authorities’ the event was Chaired by our Honorary President Steve Reed OBE, MP.  It was a pleasure to see so many Member Councils, Affiliate and Associate Members at the launch of the report in Westminster on 24 January. I’m delighted at the outcomes of this piece of work which was led by Cllr Tony Newman at Croydon Council.  With 12 different Case Studies, it shows that there’s no ‘one-size fits all’ approach to generating community-led housing. Enabling communities to create affordable homes is something that local councils can do, and this report provides real examples of how to do it.  We’re encouraging all councils to commit to supporting the development of more community-led housing.  I hope that you will now urge others to join the conversation to deliver more community-led housing across the country.  Working together we can build better communities and neighbourhoods.
