CCIN Members’ Update November 2017

  • 2nd Nov 2017

Councillor Sharon Taylor, Chair of the CCINWe’re living in interesting times. As the effects of austerity cuts on local government budgets continue to bite it is more important than ever for us to work together as a Network to share best practice and seek new ways of collaborating with residents, putting them at the heart of our decision-making.

As your Chair, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you at exhibitions and events up and down the country over the last few months, and I have been impressed at the exciting and innovative policy work that is taking place.  We all need to continue to record this work into Case Studies for our website and promotional material, and get better at networking and learning from one another in order to save time and build professional collaborative links across authorities and with our new Associate and Affiliate Members.  I’m particularly delighted to welcome Councillor Peter Rankin and his colleagues at Preston City Council to the Network and hope that many of you will reach out to Peter and his team over the coming months.

We work in local government because we want to serve our communities and improve the lives and neighbourhoods of our constituents – but we also have a moral duty to explain what austerity means on the front line and we need to get better at doing this.  It is for this reason that I am looking forward to seeing many of you in Birmingham on 20 November when we shall seek to map out our future strategy. I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Update.
