Members’ Update June 2023

  • 31st May 2023

Congratulations to everyone who was successful in winning a seat in the Local Elections. We saw the Network gain three new Full Member Councils, with Medway, Plymouth and Stoke Labour and Cooperative Groups all taking control. This brings the number of large Councils in membership to 40. Last month we also welcomed Tamworth Labour & Coop Group, Llanelli Town Council and Outlandish.

We hope to increase our membership further this month as we are showcasing the Network at Co-operative Congress and the Coop Party Local Government Conference on 16 and 17 June, both in Manchester.  We’ll be giving away copies of the 2023 edition of our Case Studies Pack – and have included a link in this edition to the digital version.  Thanks to our friends at Cooperative News for producing it.

This month we are also hosting a special meeting for Leaders and Cooperative Leads to meet with representatives of community banking projects from across the UK.  This session will take place on  Zoom on Monday, 12 June.  More details are below.

Please Save the Date for our Annual Conference and AGM in Sunderland on 1 – 2 November.  The booking page will launch this month.

This month’s Blog is from Gavin Callaghan, MD of Beartas.  Gavin is Vice Chair of our Values & Principles Board, representing Affiliate Members.  He was once the Labour Leader of Basildon, he writes about leading a council that has No Overall Control.

Finally, I wanted to congratulate those members who have been shortlisted for this year’s LGC Awards and highlight that six of the seven shortlisted councils for the Community Involvement category are CCIN Members!   You can see the full list of shortlisted councils below.  Good luck to all of you!

I hope that you enjoy this edition of Update.

Best wishes

Louise
