Members’ Update June 2024

  • 30th May 2024

May’s Local Election results saw two of our Associate Members transition into Full Members after election successes. We welcome Adur District Council and Tamworth Borough Council as Full Members. I'm delighted to report that the Case Studies Pack is now at the printers! Thank you to everyone involved. The 2024 Pack features a record number of new Case Studies, including those from Birmingham City Council, Hounslow Council, and Swansea Council featured below.

Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council

This month, we revisit two of the Policy Labs launched at the last Annual Conference: Arts and Culture for Social Cohesion, led by North Herts Council, and the intriguingly titled ‘This is not a manual for co-production’, led by Rochdale Council.

Newcastle City Council is offering a FREE session on Gender-Based Violence funded as part of the Policy Lab on Tackling Violence against Women and Girls led by Trafford Council.  We also feature a video from Cardiff Council to celebrate becoming the UKs first UNICEF Child Friendly City.

We think its important to promote Fair Tax, the Living Wage and the Modern Slavery Charter.  Our latest stats show that 24% of Full Member Councils have signed up to all three and:

  • 36% have signed the Councils for Fair Tax Declaration
  • 58% have become Living Wage Accredited
  • 73% have signed the Modern Slavery Charter (or similar)

You can find out more in the Case Studies Pack.

Cooperative councils are proactively searching for innovative ways to meet their communities’ social and economic needs, your Case Studies shine a spotlight on where those cooperative practices have been implemented successfully. In the run-up to the General Election we hope that these examples offer some hope of what might be possible nationally.

Best wishes

Louise
