Cooperative Values-Driven AI

  • 17th Oct 2024

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) presents both significant opportunities and challenges for public services. As councils and public organisations navigate this transformative landscape, it is crucial to develop comprehensive AI strategies that align with ethical principles and community values.

Following the Mutual Ventures and Newcastle City Council workshop at the CCIN conference in Sunderland in 2023, a CCIN policy lab worked with member councils to discuss the moral and ethical opportunities and challenges AI poses for public services and published an AI Guidance Framework, based on co-operative values and principles, as well as case studies of good practice.

The AI Guidance Framework aims to provide practical recommendations and considerations for councils embarking on their AI journey. The Framework offers guidance to support councils to harness the power of AI responsibly and to ensure that benefits are realised while mitigating potential risks. We hope this framework will serve as a valuable resource for councils and public organisations as they develop and implement AI products.
